I’ve been receiving Glossybox for a few months now and have never been disappointed.  While similar to other monthly beauty box subscriptions, they are a step ahead providing full-size, luxury brand products.  I have never received any tiny foil packet samples like I have with other beauty boxes.

It’s such a treat to receive such a beautiful package each month.

There were five products included in the March box:

Text from the insert, clockwise from left with my first impressions in italics below…

Pixi – Magic Tink Tint – This gel lip crayon gently tints your lips while nourishing and moisturizing them at the same time. It comes in a blooming pink hue and glides effortlessly onto lips, leaving you with a flawless pout.

First impressions:  I tried this on my hand last night and it came out as a very sheer pink.  I tried it this morning with the rest of my makeup and it turned my lips a bright Barbie pink.  Definitely a fun color for spring and summer on the weekend but it was just too bright for the office.

Prestiche – Essential Oil Bar Soap – This bar soap is made from the highest quality all-natural ingredients, which are hand selected by seasoned botanists, herbalists and cosmetic gurus.  It will soothe even those with extremely sensitive skin, as it contains rich essential oils and vitamins that work to leave skin soft, refreshed and aromatic.

First impressions: I have quite a few body washes and soaps that I’m currently trying to use up (including the Bvlgari soap from last month’s Glossybox) so I haven’t opened this up yet.  I’m typically not a fan of bar soaps as I have found they leave a soapy residue on my skin.  The ingredients include a lot of essential oils and shea butter so I am hoping it will leave a smooth feeling on the skin.  The limoncello scent is especially refreshing and will be great for an energizing shower in the spring mornings.

Sebastian Professional – Shaper Fierce – From unkempt bed heads to high-fashion chignons, this shaping spray provides buildable, flexible hold while maintaining a high-shine gloss – a definite must-have for keeping  your fashionable ‘dos in place.

First impressions:  I am not a huge fan of hairspray but sometimes the weather in San Francisco demands it I used this last night to build some volume in my roots.  It held the style but was flexible and the smell is light and unobtrusive.  Definitely a winner!

Elite Models – Liner – This liquid eyeliner from France is waterproof, long lasting, and come sin rich colors.  The brush applicator allows you to create the most precise line, whether you prefer yours thin and delicate or thick and dramatic.

First impressions:  I typically only use liquid eyeliner on the weekend or special occasions.  I  don’t have the patience to get the perfect line when I’m already in a rush to get ready for work.  I tried this out last night and was able to get a smooth, precise line.  The color was a matte dark brown.  I typically wear black liners but enjoyed the more neutral look of this liner.  When they say waterproof, they mean it!   My Philosophy Purity did not remove this with the rest of my makeup; I had to use an oil based makeup remover.  I travel often and don’t always carry a strong remover with me so this is probably not something I would wear on a regular basis.

Modelco – Cheek + Lip Tint – This cheek and lip tint provides the right amount of color for a natural rosy flush.  Just in time for spring!  The gel formulation leaves you with “just pinched” cheeks and sexy, lightly stained lips.

First impressions:  I typically don’t use liquid cheek and lip stains so I was excited to see this in the box!  I applied this after my foundation but before my translucent powder.  I’m not sure if that is how I’m supposed to be using it but it gave me a light pink, natural flush on my cheeks.  I’d like to experiment with different application methods before making a final judgement on this product.  (Fingers? Sponge? Beauty Blender? Brush?)  I think it will be great for summer over my Smashbox  BB Cream.

What is your favorite beauty box?  Have you tried any of these products?  Let me know!

This is not a sponsored post.  Just my opinions on my favorite beauty box!

In the world of skin tones, I go beyond pale… My skin is translucent and is actually more on the lavender side of white… Which means that I can get a pretty epic sunburn after just a short time of exposure. The picture below shows what about an hour in the sun can do to me…  Pretty bad stuff!

This year I’m on the hunt for a fantastic sunscreen for my body… I currently have Hawaiian Tropic SPF 50 in the cabinet…  While I love the smell, it leaves a pretty greasy feeling overall.  There are so many high and low end choices.  I’m leaning towards a drugstore brand due to budget and non-spray.  Have you ever gotten spray SPF in your eyes?

So, tell me, what is your favorite SPF for the spring/summer months?

Do you wear pressed powder? Loose Powder?  Translucent powder? No powder?

loreal true match powder n2

I’ve long been devoted to L’Oreal True Match Pressed Powder but lately it is just not working.  It gets cakey and fills my pores.  It looks awful just a couple of hours into the day and I end up just wiping everything off my face.  I don’t know if my skin changed or if it’s the product but I don’t know where to turn….

Smashbox Photo Set Pressed Powder

I absolutely LOVE my Smashbox Photo Ready BB Cream and was at the counter to pickup some more when I spotted this little compact and decided to pick it up.  I figured it might work since the BB Cream is so great.  I found that this was a little cakey and way too yellow for my complexion.  I also can’t justify the cost for so little product.

laura mercier Mineral Pressed Powder SPF 15

I’ve never tried the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizers that everyone raves about but I figured I might try the mineral powder.  This was beyond cakey… It looked like I had rubbed chalk all over my face.  It immediately went back to Sephora.

Clinique Perfectly Real

A friend of mine swears by the Clinique Perfectly Real Compact so I decided to give it a try.  This provided decent coverage but is not readily available at the Clinique counters (only Macy’s seems to carry it).  It also was a little too yellow for my complexion.

Moving on…

bareMinerals Original Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15

A few years ago I was devoted to bareMinerals products.  I found that after a few hours, the product would gather around my nose and start to look cakey even with minimal application.  I also found that it was hard to transport for touch-ups during the day and it is messy.  The boyfriend got a little irritated on more than one occasion when the powder was flying all over his bathroom.

Make Up Forever HD Microfinish Powder

Last night I was going through boxes of makeup that need to be organized and found this little guy… Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder; a translucent finishing powder.  I pulled it out and set it aside to use this morning.  After applying serum and moisturizer, I applied my Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation and then using a fluffy brush, applied a thin layer of this finishing powder. I’m five hours in, no touch-ups required, no cakiness spotted, dewy but not shiny. Do we have a winner?

What’s your holy grail foundation/powder combination?

Sometimes a pencil skirt, a simple white button down and a pair of killer heels are all you need to have a fantastic work day.

This beauty was waiting for me when I got home last night!

I had never received a catalog from Nordstrom !

The styling and products in this catalog are absolutely gorgeous…  I can’t wait to see the other catalogs.

Rainy weather is going to hit the bay area tomorrow.  It’s been lovely and dry and as much as I dislike the rain, I know we need it.  I have an hour long commute on public transit with a 20 minute walk.  I’ve found that my pants get wet on my walk and I feel drenched and gross by the time I reach the office.  My new go to is a skirt with hunter boots to keep my legs dry and then I change into shorter booties when I reach the office.

What do you wear on a rainy day to the office?

I can’t believe it’s already March!  The weather in SF has been warming up this week and I was excited to wear a new shirt that I picked up at Banana Republic – the softwash gingham… It fits great, is super soft and the length is perfect. Unfortunately it’s sold out online but there were plenty in the flagship store!

This is how I put together the outfit today… I’ve gotten quite a few compliments at the office so I think this is a winner for casual Friday!  The shirt shown is a similar style that is currently available from JCrew Factory!
